Couture class: Fashion is some serious business, and the skills it requires to succeed stretch way beyond the runway. So cheers to the Boston Center for Adult Education, which starting Monday is offering a four-week course at the School of Fashion Design detailing the business end of the catwalk. From fashion theory to elements of design to sketching to marketing, Boston Fashion Week creator Jay Calderin leads a course that covers all seams for those interested in “making it work.” Classes run from 6 to 8 p.m. each
Monday until July 28. Registration information at bcae.org. School of Fashion Design, 136 Newbury St., Boston
From 50 Cent to ’50s fashion: Calling all of Boston’s James Dean fashion plates. Club Pearl at the Matrix is hosting a White Top/Blue Jean party on Sunday, with DJs MasterMind providing the not-so-John-Cougar-Mellencamp-soundtrack of reggae and hip-hop. It’s greaser glory with a touch of couture. Call 617-899-6445 to reserve a table, or go to bostonfete.com for additional details. Club Pearl is located beneath the Roxy nightclub at 279 Tremont St.
STYLE NOTES: Reiss kicks off its seasonal sale Thursday, as the 137 Newbury St. shop’s entire spring and summer 2008 collection gets the 30- to 70-percent off treatment. Call 617-262-5800 for details.
Seventy-two days until Boston Fashion Week 2008.
